The company structure at Uspacy is a collection of departments and subdepartments (structural units of different levels), by which all employees - users of the space - are assigned.
Its purpose is to help build a correct idea of what the company does, who works in it, who reports to whom, how internal interaction and decision-making take place.
Appearance and logic of building
To go to the Company structure, you need to use the item of the same name in the Company and people section in the left menu.
Here, you can see two ways of visualizing the company structure:
List view
The list view is a classic way of displaying data, where all structural units are arranged one after another in a vertical format. This layout makes it easy to navigate the company structure. Although it doesn’t show reporting lines, it provides quick access to information about the staff in each department.
Tree view
The tree-like view is an intuitive way to visualize a company’s organizational structure, resembling the branches of a tree: with a root element (such as a head or main department) and branches representing departments, teams, or specific areas of work.
This format is especially useful for companies with a clear hierarchy, where it’s important to understand reporting lines, how responsibilities are distributed, and how internal connections between departments are structured.
Let’s explore the logic of building and the full functionality of the company structure using the List view as an example ⬇️
The main department always comes first. It represents the entire company as a whole and includes all active users of the Space. It is not possible to delete this department. However, it can be edited — for example, you can change its name.
If the company structure has not yet been configured in the space, it will contain only a default "Employee" department. However, if an administrator or a user with the appropriate permissions accesses the company structure page, they will have the option to create additional departments.
Departments and subdepartments are structural subdepartments-blocks, which are located in the form of a multi-level list, one after the other.
If the department contains additional structural subdepartments of a lower level, they can be viewed and expanded in the list at once.
However, they can be collapsed. To do this, you need to use the arrow indicators — they will show whether these elements can be expanded or collapsed.
❗️In Uspacy, you can build a branched company structure, but it is limited to three levels of hierarchy, which does not take into account the employee department.
Functional interaction possibilities of users with the structure of the company
As we found out earlier, the company structure page displays all the created departments and subdepartments.
Each structural subdepartment is a separate block with brief information and a set of certain interaction possibilities. They depend on the role and permissions of users in the space.
Similarly, roles and permissions affect the possibility to create a new department or delete a department.
When viewing and configuring the company structure, users can:
Create a department
Only the Space owner, an administrator, or a user with permission to create a department can do this.

Review the department (subdepartment)
The entire company structure, as well as information about individual departments, can be accessed by the Space owner, an administrator, or a user with the appropriate permission.
If you click on the department's name, the card for that structural unit will open. It contains the main information, such as the name and description. It also shows the department staff: the head and employees of that department.
A brief user profile is available for viewing, with the option to navigate to their individual page. To do this, click on their photo or name.
Employees without editing permissions can only view information about departments. However, if access is granted, an appropriate button for making changes will be available on the card.

Interaction menu with the department
To access it, click on the three dots on the right side of the department (or subdepartment) block.
Of course, the set of available actions will depend on the user's permissions. However, in general, by using this menu, you can view the department, create a subdepartment within it, edit it, or delete it.
Open item — opens the department card for viewing. This is an alternative to clicking on the department name.
Add — allows you to create a new subdepartment within the selected department.
❗️ In this case, the Parent department field will be filled out automatically.
Edit — switches to edit mode, allowing changes to the department's details.
Delete — completely removes the department (or subdepartment) along with all its subunits from the company structure.
