At Uspacy you can bind tasks to each other. The possibility to define the main task and add subtasks for it is not new... But 😉

There is a new display of tasks at Uspacy to simplify your work with subtasks. It is called Hierarchy view.

🔍For more information on how to work with subtasks, go to this article.

Display features

Hierarchy view or tasks hierarchy is a level structure designed to visualize the connection of tasks in Space.

By switching to this mode, you can see whether your task has any subtasks.

If so, then the entire hierarchy chain can be expanded.

💡Note that the hierarchy only displays subtasks of the first three levels.

If you have created a subtask for a task of level 3, it will not be displayed in the hierarchy.

Actions with tasks hierarchy

Just like in a list or Kanban board, you can interact with tasks on the hierarchy view page.

Next to the name of the desired task, there are functional buttons that allow you to copy the task number (1) or copy a link to it (2). In addition, by calling the interaction menu (3), you can Complete, Edit, Duplicate or Delete the task.

🔍 You can find more details about these options in the following article.

In addition, you can create tasks according to the hierarchy directly at the level you need.

🟣 To create a level 1 task (such a task is the "beginning of the chain" and does not have a main task), you should use the general button.

🔍 You can read more on how to create tasks using the full form in the following article.

🟣 To create level 2 and 3 tasks, which will be the first at this level, you can use two methods:

  1. already mentioned Create button. In the form that opens, fill out the Main task field.

2. by filling out the field shown in the screenshot below.

🟣 To create tasks of level 2 and 3, if there are already subtasks at this level, you can use special buttons.

After clicking on them, a quick form will open, where you need to fill out the name of the task, select a deadline, specify the priority and the person responsible.

After saving, the subtask will appear at the level (2 or 3) in which you created it.

Search features and filtering

The hierarchy changes its view depending on tasks levels.

💡But it takes place within only three levels. That is, tasks that, after applying the filters, are located at 4, 5, 6 won’t be displayed at all.

🟣Filtering is applied to all tasks levels starting from level 1. Then in the hierarchy, all tasks are displayed at the same levels according to their current ones ⬇️

The first place takes a task of the 1st level with a subtask of the 2nd level (second place), in case it has a subtask of the 3rd level (third place).

🟣Filtering is applied to all tasks levels starting from level 2. That is, level 2, 3 and 4. Then in the hierarchy, all tasks are displayed one level higher than their current level ⬇️

The first place takes a task of level 2 with a subtask of level 3 (second place), in case it has a subtask of level 4 (third place).

🟣Filtering is applied to subtasks of lower levels, but not to tasks of a higher level. Then the task of the level that corresponds to the filter ⬇️ is moved to a higher place (higher level) in the hierarchy.

For example, tasks of level 2 and 3 meet the conditions, but tasks of level 1 do NOT. Therefore, as a result of filtering, a task of level 2 with a subtask of level 3 is moved to level 1 (it will also take a higher place, i.e. level 2).

🟣 Filtering is applied to a task of a lower level, but a task of a higher level and an even lower level - NO. Then the task of the level that meets the filtering conditions and does not contain subtasks is moved to a higher place in the hierarchy.

For example, the task of level 2 meets the filtering conditions, but at the same time the tasks of level 1 and 3 do NOT. Therefore, as a result of filtering, the level 2 task without any subtasks is moved to the 1st level.

🟣 Filtering is applied to all tasks of different levels, which are not in the order of "hierarchical queue". Such tasks, regardless of their level, will be displayed at a higher level without any subtasks ⬇️

For example, level 1 and level 3 tasks meet filtering conditions, while Level 2 tasks in this chain do NOT. Therefore, as a result of filtering, a task that already corresponds to level 1 will be displayed at level 1. Also, level 3 tasks without subtasks will be displayed at the 1st level.

🟣 Filtering is applied to the task of the lowest level, from the entire chain, which can’t be displayed in the hierarchy (for example, levels 4, 5, 6, 7, etc.)

For example, only level 5 tasks meet the filtering conditions. Therefore, after filtering, it will go to level 1.
